PLATFORM 05 · IN-PERSON TEAM BUILDING

Teams that move together.

Team days are a use-case skin over real WayHopper engines—scavenger hunts or ticketed games & bookings. QR + GPS check-in, photo missions, leaderboards, and copy-event / game templates for the next offsite. Get people out of the conference room and onto the map.

The best team building doesn't happen in a breakout room. It happens when four people are racing to find a landmark, solve a clue, and upload proof before the other department does. — what a great offsite actually feels like
The organizer journey

Five phases to launch day.

From template to live leaderboard — here's how organizers run a professional team day on hunts or ticketed games.

BRIEF

Define the challenge

Start from a scavenger hunt or game template—city hunt, campus orientation, charity relay. Set dates, points or booking rules, and stop order.

JOIN

Invite participants

Share the public event or game page. Players join with a ticket, keycode, or free registration—then play in the WayHopper app.

MAP

Drop mission stops

Assign locations with geo radius, optional sequence, photo rules, and QR materials for parks, campuses, or downtown routes.

LIVE

Run it in real time

Teams check in with QR + GPS. Leaderboards update; organizers moderate photos and send reminders from the portal.

CLOSE

Results & reuse

Announce or close results, share the photo gallery, then copy the event or reuse the game template for the next cohort.

The old way vs. WayHopper

Stop handing out clipboards.

The spreadsheet way

Great slides. Zero engagement.

  • Paper clue sheets teams lose in the first ten minutes
  • No live visibility — organizer has no idea who's winning
  • Manual photo collection via email or shared drives
  • No shared leaderboard or photo trail after the fact
  • Rebuilding the same hunt from scratch every year
  • Teams stuck indoors when the whole point was getting outside
The WayHopper way

One app. Every team. Live scores.

  • QR + GPS missions at real stops (app supports offline check-ins)
  • Live scavenger leaderboards you can show in the closing session
  • Photo challenges with organizer moderation before galleries go live
  • Check-ins, scores, and photos ready for a post-event debrief
  • Copy the event or reuse a game template next time
Event formats

Every kind of in-person team day.

Corporates, schools, nonprofits, and agencies run different skins of the same engines—scavenger hunts, open routes, or ticketed games—with mapped missions and leaderboards at the center.

FORMAT 02

Campus orientation games

First-year students discover buildings, traditions, and resources through a guided hunt. Universities run it during move-in week or alumni weekends.

SchoolsSelf-paced
FORMAT 03

Cross-department relays

Engineering vs. sales vs. ops — department teams compete on a shared route with bonus points for collaboration challenges at hub stops.

FORMAT 04

Charity & volunteer challenge days

Nonprofits and employee resource groups run donation-milestone hunts — teams unlock sponsor stops as collective giving goals are hit. Combines team competition with social impact.

FORMAT 05

Onboarding & new-hire trails

New hires meet colleagues at mapped stops across HQ or a business park — "find the CFO's favorite coffee spot" beats another slide deck.

FORMAT 06

Multi-site synchronized hunts

Teams in Chicago, Austin, and Denver run the same mission structure on local routes — one leaderboard, three cities, one company offsite.

FORMAT 07

Conference & summit activations

Event agencies brand a hunt or game between sessions—sponsor stops, exhibitor check-ins, and a closing awards moment driven by live scores. No separate white-label app.

Leadership & executive retreats

Smaller groups, harder clues, premium stops — a high-touch format for C-suite offsites at resorts, vineyards, or historic districts.

Timed missions & trivia

Company history questions, industry trivia, and speed bonuses — configurable per stop for engagement without chaos.

FAQ

Team building questions.

More in our help center, or talk to a solutions engineer who's run corporate hunts.

Is this for in-person events only?

Yes. WayHopper Team Building is built for outdoor and on-site experiences — city hunts, campus walks, park relays, and multi-venue challenge days. Participants move between physical stops with GPS and QR check-ins.

Is team building a separate product engine?

No—it’s a use-case skin over scavenger hunts and open routes. You set points per stop, optional forced sequence, photo rules, and leaderboards—the same check-in model as corporate hunts and campus walks.

What kinds of missions can teams complete?

QR + GPS check-ins at landmarks, optional or required photo prompts, points per stop, and badges when configured. Leaderboards reflect those standings—no separate trivia or video mission engine.

Do participants need to download an app?

For day-of QR + GPS check-in, yes—the iOS/Android WayHopper app is the home for play. Teams can still browse events and buy tickets on the web. The app supports offline check-ins when signal drops—they finish the stop once they’re back online.

How many participants can one event support?

Set a participant limit when you create the event. Large corporate cohorts run on the same scavenger-hunt infrastructure—copy the event for the next department or campus.

What can organizers review after the event?

Check-ins, scores/leaderboards, photo galleries, and results you announce or close. Copy the event or reuse a game template for the next cohort—there is no separate HR-export product module.

Plan your next team day.

Free to start. Most HR teams and event agencies publish their first team building hunt in under an hour.
