Q–GS–01 What is WayHopper, in one sentence?
WayHopper is a location-based event platform for poker runs, scavenger hunts, yard-sale trails, ticketed games, and other multi-stop experiences—with QR + GPS check-in, ticketing, photos, badges, and results.
Q–GS–02 How do organizers get started?
Sign up as an organizer, complete your profile, then create an event in the organizer portal:
- Choose an event type (poker run, scavenger hunt, open / yard-sale style, or ticketed game)
- Build a route from your location library and generate QR codes
- Set tickets or free entry; connect Stripe Connect for paid events
- Publish — the event appears in the mobile app and on public pages

Q–GS–03 What kinds of events does WayHopper handle?
Core event formats on the platform:
- Poker runs — check in at stops, draw cards, track hands and rankings
- Scavenger hunts — earn points at locations; leaderboards when enabled
- Yard sales & open routes — mapped multi-stop community trails
- Ticketed games — game templates and bookings with ticket purchase
Organizers also run community and hospitality-style routes (pub crawls, fundraisers, tourism trails) on the same check-in, ticket, and results toolkit. Tell us what you’re running if you want a fit check.
Q–GS–04 Can events be free?
Yes. Organizers can create free events, participant-paid ticketed events, or organizer-funded events using WayHopper credits.
Participants download the app for free; individual events may be free or ticketed depending on the organizer. See the pricing page for current organizer plan details.
Q–GS–05 Do I need any hardware on event day?
No special hardware. Participants check in with their own phones using the WayHopper app (camera + location). Organizers print or display QR codes at stops and can monitor activity from the organizer portal on a laptop or tablet.
Printable tickets, keycode lists, and event flyers are available from the portal when you need offline materials.
Q–EVT–01 How does scoring work for a poker run?
Players check in at card stops with QR + GPS. The platform draws a card into their hand and tracks progress automatically—no paper scorecards.
Depending on the event setup, players may:
- Follow a forced sequence (classic poker runs) or a looser card-draw route
- View hand history (best / discarded cards, rank)
- Improve a hand with an extra keycode or paid extra card when the event allows it
- See rankings / results when the organizer announces or the event closes
Q–EVT–02 How do scavenger hunts work?
Participants join a hunt, check in at stops for points, and follow either a forced route or free exploration—depending on how the organizer configured the event.
When enabled, a leaderboard shows standings during or after the event. Photos and badges can also be part of the experience.
Q–EVT–03 Can participants check in without the app?
No. QR + GPS check-in is only possible through the WayHopper iOS/Android app—you scan the stop QR and the app validates your location.
Use the web for discovery, public event pages, ticket checkout, history, and the participant portal. Day-of check-in and play require the app.
Q–EVT–04 How does QR + GPS check-in work?
At each stop, open the WayHopper app and scan the location/event QR code. The app sends your scan plus GPS coordinates. WayHopper validates that you’re joined/activated, inside the stop’s geo radius, within any sequence rules, and that the event is still open.
Normal check-in needs a location fix and connectivity. The WayHopper app supports offline check-ins when signal drops—take a photo at the checkpoint, keep going, and finish the check-in in the app once you’re back online.
You can pre-validate a scan before committing if you’re unsure you’re close enough.
Q–EVT–05 Can I copy or reuse an event?
Yes. Organizers can copy existing events (including multi-leg routes) in the portal to reuse locations, settings, and structure for the next run.
Game operators can also maintain reusable game templates and sell ticketed game bookings. Season-long trivia leagues are not a separate product mode—use copy/reuse and standard event tools for recurring series.
Q–EVT–06 Can local businesses add stops to my event?
Yes—on supported open / community-style events, organizers can invite external partners through the Location Entry Portal. Partners add and manage their own stops under the organizer’s rules (limits, waivers, fees where configured).
Q–BIL–01 Which plan is right for my org?
WayHopper supports free events, participant-paid tickets, and organizer-funded events with credits. Current plan tiers and limits are listed on the pricing page.
If you’re running a multi-event program or need a custom conversation, book a demo or contact us.
Q–BIL–02 How does organizer billing work?
For participant-paid events, organizers connect Stripe Connect Express, sell tickets, and receive their organizer share after the event completes under platform payout rules.
Organizers can also buy WayHopper credits to fund organizer-pay events, or run free events with no participant charge. Platform and processing fees shown at checkout/pricing are the source of truth—we don’t invent fee percentages here.
Q–BIL–03 Is there a nonprofit or club discount?
Ask us. Nonprofit, club, and community pricing depends on your program—email support / sales with your organization details and we’ll confirm what applies. We don’t publish fixed discount percentages on this page.
Q–BIL–04 Can I stop using WayHopper anytime?
Yes. You can stop creating new events and leave unpaid/unused organizer workflows whenever you choose. For active paid events, finish payouts and participant obligations first so riders and hunters aren’t left mid-route.
Account-specific cancellation and billing details are managed in your organizer portal / Stripe Connect account. Contact support if you need help closing out.
Q–REV–01 How do ticket payments and organizer payouts work?
Participants pay securely with Stripe in the app or on the public event page. For participant-paid events, organizers complete Stripe Connect Express onboarding.
WayHopper collects ticket payments on the platform, then transfers the organizer share after the event completes and eligibility rules are met (including a clearance window). Bank deposit timing after that follows Stripe Express payout schedules—not an instant bank deposit at the moment of sale.
Exact platform fee amounts are shown on pricing / at checkout. Ask WayHopper for current numbers if you need them for contracts.
Q–REV–02 How do third-party location partners work?
On supported open / community events, organizers can invite businesses, sellers, or venues through the Location Entry Portal. Partners add their own stops under your limits, waiver, photo, and fee settings.
This is not a general vendor marketplace—partners contribute locations to your event route, and participants discover those stops in the app and on public pages.
Q–REV–03 How are refunds handled?
Refund policy is set by the organizer for their event. Publish a clear refund policy on your event page so participants know up front.
Payment history and Stripe tools cover ticket transactions; contact support if you need help with a specific payout or refund case. Timing depends on Stripe and your event settings—not a fixed WayHopper guarantee.
Q–REV–04 What are WayHopper credits?
Credits are an organizer balance you can buy in the portal and spend on organizer-funded event models. They’re separate from Stripe Connect payouts: credits are what you spend to fund certain events; Connect is how you receive your share of participant-paid ticket revenue after an event completes.
Q–TEC–01 Which map provider do you use?
WayHopper uses Google Maps for maps, location imagery, and route context in participant and organizer experiences.
Q–TEC–02 Do you have a public developer API?
WayHopper’s platform APIs power the mobile app, organizer portal, and public pages. A public third-party developer portal is not marketed as a self-serve product surface—contact us if you have an integration need.
Q–APP–01 Do participants have to download an app?
For day-of play—especially QR + GPS check-in—yes, the iOS / Android WayHopper app is the home for that experience.
Participants can still browse events, buy tickets on public event pages, and manage history, badges, photos, and privacy in the participant web portal. Web is the companion; the app is where you check in and play.
Q–APP–02 Can I publish a white-label app for my event?
No—WayHopper does not offer separate white-label apps per organizer as a standard product. Participants use the WayHopper iOS and Android app; your event branding appears through event pages, flyers, QR materials, and in-app event details.
If you have a custom branding request outside the standard product, contact us and we’ll tell you what’s possible.
Q–APP–03 What devices are supported?
WayHopper is available on iOS and Android via the App Store and Google Play. The participant web portal and public event pages work in modern mobile and desktop browsers for discovery, tickets, history, and account tasks.
Q–APP–04 Why does the app ask for location and camera?
Location verifies check-ins—when you scan a stop’s QR, WayHopper confirms you’re within that stop’s geo radius. Without location, fair check-in can’t work reliably.
Camera is used to scan QR codes and to capture check-in photos when a stop asks for them.
Allowing notifications is recommended so you don’t miss reminders, results, and important updates.
Q–APP–05 Can I buy a ticket without the app?
Yes. Public event pages support web checkout with Stripe. You can also apply a keycode (ticket/entry code from the organizer) in the app.
After you have a ticket or code, use the app on event day to scan QR codes and check in at stops.
Q–APP–06 What about photos, badges, and results?
In the app you can upload check-in photos (hide or delete your own later), earn badges for completing configured stops, share badge payloads, and view poker rankings, scavenger leaderboards, and hand history when available.
Public results pages and media galleries make it easy to share after the event closes.
Q–ACC–01 Can organizers and players use the same login area?
No. Players use the WayHopper app and participant web portal. Organizers use the separate organizer admin portal. Marketing-site login routes you into the right experience based on participant vs organizer sign-in.
Q–ACC–02 What roles does WayHopper support?
At a high level:
- Participants / players — join and play events in the app
- Organizers & editors — create and run events in the organizer portal
- Third-party location managers — add stops via the Location Entry Portal when invited
- Platform admins — WayHopper internal administration
Organizer teams manage events from the portal; participants never get organizer-creation tools in the player app.
Q–ACC–03 What login options exist?
Participants can sign in with email/password or social login (Google, Apple, or Facebook). Organizers can sign in with email/password or Google. Password reset completes on the web.
