PLATFORM 06 · DESTINATION EVENTS

Every landmark on one trail.

Tourism trails are a use-case skin over open routes, scavenger hunts, or ticketed games—mapped landmarks, QR + GPS check-in, partner stops via the Location Entry Portal, and public event pages visitors can share.

Tourism isn't a map at the visitor center. It's a story visitors walk — with stamps, sponsors, and proof of where they actually went. — what a modern DMO campaign actually delivers
Event types we power

Multiple tourism formats. One platform.

From UNESCO heritage weekends to downtown food trails — each format uses the same map engine, tuned for how visitors actually explore a destination.

Type 01

Heritage & cultural festivals

World Heritage celebrations, living-history weekends, and arts festivals that draw locals and out-of-town visitors to preserved districts.

Heritage days · UNESCO routes · living history
Type 02

Heritage walks & guided trails

Self-guided walking tours through historic neighborhoods, alleyways, and landmark corridors — with audio-ready stop copy and check-in stamps.

Heritage walks · mural routes · architecture tours
Type 03

Food, wine & agritourism

Tasting trails across wineries, farm stands, and chef pop-ups. Passport check-ins prove foot traffic for grant and partner reporting.

Tasting trails · farm-to-table · brewery loops
Type 04

Seasonal destination festivals

Multi-week city festivals with parades, markets, and performance stages — each venue a mapped stop with hours and sponsor branding.

Summer festivals · holiday markets · light walks
Type 05

Shopping & downtown passports

Retail district challenges that move visitors block-to-block — chamber-sponsored checkpoints and BID-ready traffic data.

Shop local · BID passports · holiday hunts
Type 06

DMO & visitor-center campaigns

Year-round destination games tied to hotels, attractions, and partner stops — the campaign lives in pocket, not a rack brochure.

CVB trails · hotel packages · partner networks
The visitor journey

Five stops to a full visit.

From visitor-center brochure to pocket passport — how WayHopper runs a destination trail or festival weekend.

JOIN

Discover & join

Visitors scan a QR at the visitor center, hotel, or festival gate. One tap to join on web or app — no account friction.

MAP

Explore the trail

Every landmark, merchant, and performance venue is a pin with hours, story copy, photos, and accessibility notes.

NAV

Walk with guidance

Turn-by-turn between stops — optimized for pedestrians exploring downtown, waterfront, or heritage districts.

STAMP

Collect passport stamps

GPS or QR check-ins record progress — visitors see what they've visited and what's still open today.

PROOF

Prove the visit

DMO dashboards show stop counts, and sponsor exposure — exportable for grants, partners, and next year's budget.

The old way vs. WayHopper

Stop printing rack brochures.

The brochure way

Visitors wander. Data disappears.

  • Static PDF maps with no live hours or closures
  • No proof which attractions actually got foot traffic
  • Partner merchants can't update their own stop details
  • Festival schedule changes don't reach visitors in time
  • Sponsor ROI is a guess, not a dashboard
The WayHopper way

One trail. One passport. Real analytics.

  • Live map with stories, photos, and open hours per stop
  • Check-in data per landmark for DMO reporting
  • Partners self-publish stops with approval workflows
  • Message board can reveal when stages open, rain plans change, or schedule updates post
  • Sponsor stops and advertising with impression counts sponsors can see
Interactive map

The whole destination on one board.

Plot museums, markets, murals, and merchant partners. The map engine powers poker runs, passports and yard sales yet can be tuned for heritage districts and festival corridors.

Multi-day festivals

Not every stop runs all four days.

Tag venues with open days — opening night only, weekend peak, or the full festival run. Visitors filter to what's happening when they're exploring.

FAQ

Tourism questions.

More in our help center, or talk to a DMO organizer who's run a multi-partner trail.

Can partner merchants add their own stops?

Yes—on supported open/community-style events, invite partners through the Location Entry Portal so museums, restaurants, and retailers add stops under your limits and approvals. It is not a general vendor marketplace.

Do visitors need to download an app?

For day-of QR + GPS check-in, yes—the iOS/Android WayHopper app is the home for play. Visitors can still browse trails and buy tickets on the web. The app supports offline check-ins when signal drops—they finish the stop once they’re back online.

Can we run heritage walks and food trails on the same platform?

Yes. They’re use-case skins over open routes, scavenger hunts, or ticketed games—same check-in model, different stop copy and scoring rules. Copy an event or reuse a game template for the next season.

What can tourism boards review after a trail?

Check-ins, leaderboards or results, moderated photo galleries, and public results pages you choose to share—enough to brief partners and plan the next route.

Will our event appear on the public directory?

When you publish, it can list on the WayHopper events page with type, date, and location filters — so travelers find your festival before they arrive.

Map your destination's next trail season.

Free to start. Most DMO and chamber teams publish their first multi-stop trail in under an hour.
