WayHopper does not only read a QR. It checks that you are joined, inside the stop radius, following sequence rules when required, and meeting any photo rules the organizer set.
Scan the stop QR
Open the WayHopper app at the location and scan the code posted at the stop—or the event QR when that is what the organizer provided.
GPS validates distance
Your phone location must fall inside the stop’s geo radius. If you are slightly outside, move closer and try again.
Offline check-ins
When signal drops, the WayHopper app supports offline check-ins: take a photo at the checkpoint, keep going, and finish the check-in once you are back online.

On success you may draw a card, earn points, unlock a badge, or get a photo prompt—depending on the event.

Why does check-in use GPS?
So check-ins are fair. WayHopper confirms you are actually at the stop, not just sharing a photo of a QR from somewhere else.
What if I am slightly outside the stop?
Move closer and try again. Check-in only succeeds inside the organizer-configured geo radius. GPS can drift near buildings—step into a clearer spot if needed.
Do I need mobile data on event day?
For normal check-in, yes—you need a GPS fix and connectivity. The WayHopper app supports offline check-ins when signal drops so you can recover in dead spots.
Is this a fully offline event mode?
No. Offline check-in is a recovery path (photo → continue → finish online). It is not offline-first maps or a fully offline event mode.
